Surfaces Technological Abrasives, ADI Group and Xenon Private Equity VI make up the European leader in the super-abrasive tools (diamond and CBN) business

  • Surfaces Technological Abrasives is a world leader in diamond tools for the ceramic tile lapping and polishing systems
  • ADI Group is a worldwide recognized leader in the Ceramic, Stone, Glass, Mechanics and Optics industries for its quality and high performance tools
  • The operation aims to create an undisputed Industrial Group for the super-abrasive (diamond and CBN) tools for all the existing Divisions and for the new sintered hard materials (becoming very popular now)

Surfaces Technological Abrasives was founded in 2010 and within few years achieved a leading position in the ceramic tile lapping and polishing industries, thanks to the continuous investments in R&D paired with a deep knowledge of the market needs. The production of Surfaces Technological Abrasives is mainly located in Cenate di Sotto (BG) with state of the art equipment to guarantee both high capacity and great capability (high quality); whereas, in Sassuolo – Modena its R&D centre facility is capable of simulating the real working conditions of the end users, and thus is used to tailor the products to the customers needs.
The locations of Surfaces Technological Abrasives are complemented by the Brazilian plant (strategic for the MERCOSUR customers) and the Portuguese facility that serves the Iberian Peninsula.

ADI was founded in 1980 in Thiene (VI) and is recognized as a leading player in the manufacturing of super-abrasives (Diamond and CBN) tools for the Stone, Ceramics, Glass, and Mechanics and Optical industries. ADI has in its house the most complete bond technologies currently available: metal, vitrified, resin and coated along with all their possible variances. Moreover, ADI boasts more than 800 different bonds to fulfill requirements that range from Dry, Wet and Special Condition/Material Processing. Aside from the three production plants located in Thiene (VI), ADI has two companies in the US (North Carolina) to better serve the North American customers and a joint venture in Turkey for the local and surrounded countries ceramic industry. Finally, ADI has filed several patents, to protect the intellectual property of its Divisions, and trademarks internationally registered.

The new Group, which results from the integration of Surfaces and ADI, will necessarily take the leadership of the ceramic tile processes, as it will provide an integrated and optimized solution from the beginning till the end of both Dry and Wet processes. The new Group will boasts sales for over 55 Million € in 2016.

“We are very much pleased to have created such a leading group in the production of super-abrasive tools,” says Gaetano Maffei, President and CEO of Surfaces Technological Abrasives. Moreover, “Surfaces and ADI, despite their continuous growth experienced in the last three years, have still enormous potential growth in front derived from the synergy of the peculiar/proprietary technologies of both companies and from unchartered / unexploited markets”

Dino Zandonella Necca (Managing Director of ADI) says: “We are very much thankful to the Private Equity Found Xenon for having put together these two leading realities. The immediate synergies will be: capacity to better follow the existing customers through the subsidiaries, extended production capacity and more international breath for all the Divisions”

Werner Ricciolini (ADI Ceramic Division Manager, son of the ADI founder and shareholder): “This new consolidation will help us in achieving leadership through the now available state of the art products for each phase of the tile line process and it will be an ideal partner for the ceramic machine manufacturer for its relevant R&D (e.g. first to develop the Dry process tools)”
