OCMI-OTG, worldwide leading supplier of complete lines for the production of glass tubular containers for pharmaceutical and cosmetic use like ampoules, vials, droppers and dental cartridges, will be glad to open the doors of its premises of Milan during the month of April 2019 to introduce the last upgrades applied to the vial forming machine type FLA20/S.

The 20 stations vial forming machine, with continuous rotation according to OCMI tradition and max. output around 3000 pcs/hr for 2R vials, is now equipped with newly developed pre-forming and main forming stations where plungers and rollers movement is driven by servo-motors.

Main purpose is to assure the best precision and quality of the mouth forming process and make the operator’s job easier with the possibility to set the main parameters for tools motion from the touch-screen integrated in machine cabinet.

The main parameters to be set from machine cabinet are the initial and final positions of rollers and plungers, the entry/exit acceleration of the rollers and plungers and entry speed of plungers.

The vial forming station of FLA20/S machine includes two independent stations equipped with one roughing roller each for the initial preparation of the vial shoulders. The main forming operation is then performed by the two new servo-controlled stations equipped with two rollers and one plunger.

Plungers are internally lubricated in order to keep the best cleaning conditions of the machine during operation.

The same development with servo-control of tooling stations can be applied to OCMI droppers and dental cartridges forming machines.

The vial forming machine introduced during OCMI Open House of April 2019 will be equipped with camera inspection system OPTIVIAL for dimensional control, recently developed by increasing the number of vial pictures to be taken in order to improve the precision of the average dimensional values.

The back-light box of OPTIVIAL has been renovated with a new covering device equipped with two small cooling fan in order to minimize the risk of overheating of the lighting device.

FLA20/S machine will be connected with the after-forming line LF520, traditionally manufactured by OCMI French factory of Moderne Mecanique. The line will be equipped with cooling fans, calibration section including control of total lenght and internal mouth diameter and printing station.

The calibration station is equipped with new generation electronic gauges managed by new dedicated panel.

The line presented in April will be equipped with standard electrical annealing lehr with vials conveying through racks following the same concept of ampoule oven. This lehr can process vials with minimum total lenght of 35mm and assure an absolute removal of strains from glass surface thanks to the optimal distribution of heating elements along the three oven sections.

The alternative new version of vial annealing lehr developed in OCMI Italian headquarters, is fed by feeding manipulator with six mechanial grippers picking the vials from cooling conveyor and placing them in horizontal position on drilled metal trays. The pick-place manipulator allows to reduce the total lenght of vials to be processed since the grippers are adjustable according to vial height.

LF520 line will be working with traditional packing section with mechanical vial pushing device inside the box.

The optional equipments Roboglass (automatic tube loader) and PM-V (automatic packing machine) won’t be available during OCMI Open House but any type of technical documentation and videos will be put at complete disposal of guests.

OCMI range of vial processing machines also includes FLA20/E machines equipped with double head main forming station also driven by servo-motors and highest speed machine FLA35 for large batches, equipped with 7 main forming heads for a max. output of 4500 pcs/hr. These machines are operating with continuous rotation according to OCMI tradition. 16 stations Index-style machines type TAM114, particularly dedicated to local market, are manufactured in OCMI Indian factory of OCMI INDIA.

From April 1st 2019 OCMI will be glad to welcome all worldwide visitors potentially interested in new developments applied not only to glass vials processing technologies, but also to ampoules, droppers and dental cartridges manufacturing lines.

Particularly regarding ampoule forming machines, several units under assembly will be available in OCMI workshop and visitors shall appreciate the main technical features of both models FA36S and MM30. OCMI staff will be glad to show detailed videos about ampoule, droppers, dental cartridges production lines, and explain the main optional devices allowing to improve productivity and efficiency.

All forming machines of OCMI range can be equipped with hot-end camera inspection systems for dimensional control with the main purpose to check the machine performance in real time and identify any type of production issue immediately. In particular, camera inspection system OPTISTEM/2 suitable to installed on ampoule forming machines MM30 and FA36S, was developed to automatically adjust the oxygen level in pre-forming burners and assure to process all tubes under the same temperature conditions and to keep the stem diameter into the tightest possible tolerance.

OPTISTEM/2 system, equipped with two cameras, the first one for heating control of glass tube in each spindle and the second one for dimensional control of finished ampoules, has the main advantage to operate with the maximum reliability without affecting any mechanical components of the machine. The software is periodically developed by OCMI Engineering Department with new functions aimed to collect the most detailed statistics about each batch of production.
