The European Commission recently launched the Raw Materials Mechanism, a new platform of matchmaking developed within the EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform, with the aim of strengthening the security of supplies and the industrial resilience of the Union.

This is a tool online and market-based designed to support European companies in the diversification of strategic raw material supply chains, in line with the Criticathe Raw Materials Act and RESourcEU Action PlanThe platform connects supply and demand, facilitating dialogue between buyers, suppliers (EU and partner countries), investors, and storage services, and creating the conditions for offtake agreements and forms of industrial cooperation, including through joint purchasing or consortia.

The mechanism covers all 17 strategic raw materials identified by European legislation (over 150 products) and is structured into several operational rounds. Some are aimed at responding to immediate diversification needsicasupply chain, others instead aim to support projects still under development, facilitating access to commercial and financial partners and helping to reduce investment risk in the medium to long term.

La the first round is scheduled for March 2026 and will focus in particular on rare earths, strategic raw materials for batteries and the defense sectorParticipation is reserved for registered participants, without costs or obligation to join individual calls.

The Commission invites potentially interested companies to Register now, so as to complete the validation in a timely manner and receive updates on future developments of the platform.

For more details on how it works, its benefits, and how to register, an in-depth presentation is available.
