The postponement of the approval of the Agreement EU–Mercosur it is a serious signal that requires a clear and coordinated response from the System.
1. The Agreement must be approved immediately.
Mercosur generates concrete economic benefits, opens new markets, and strengthens Europe's position in international negotiations. Postponing it would meanica weaken the Union's competitiveness and credibility.
2. Voting against harms Italy and Europe.
Opposing the Agreement would penalize the industrial and export system and forgo growth opportunities, at a time already marked by trade tensions and tariffs.
3. The objections from part of the agricultural world are unacceptable.
Reciprocity safeguards have already been recognized. Continuing to use this argument to block the Agreement harms the national interest. Instead, it is necessary to address the distortions generated by subsidies and preferential tax regimes.
The Mercosur vote confirms imbalances that can no longer be postponed. Clear decisions are needed regarding market openness, competitiveness, and growth.
